I love kayaking in Austin, TX.  I was introduced to it in 2005 when I was doing an Exchange Program in Film at UT Austin. The way the buildings looked from the river and the freedom of transporting yourself through the water with your own power had me mesmerized. One day I kayaked from Congress to the West Dam - about 8 miles; it was awesome however in the way back I had to row faster than my capacity because the rental place was closing and I ended up horribly sore! Want to do it again while pacing myself though; it was totally worth it!

My favorite places to rent a kayak are Congress Kayaks and the place below the Hyatt hotel in Lady Bird Lake. One can also rent from Barton Springs park, but have to pay the entrance ($3 dlls) and it's a bit too crowded for my comfort. In any case, it's a beautiful experience that anyone should try!
